History

T he House of Gospel & Gumbo® was founded in the San Francisco Bay Area around 1999 by Tommy Jones.

After serving an internship at the legendary concert promoting agency Bill Graham Presents of San Francisco, California (departments of accounting and finance) Tommy was inspired to write about an ideal venue to provide local Gospel music fans a "Classy" (Gospel Branded) venue where they can get great food, fun and fellowship, "Especially After Church."

Tommy connected with his favorite school of business college professor, Dr. Lindle Hatton (CSUS Strategic Management School of Business) where he previously took his Entrepreneurship class and where he he had to write a business plan. He received an A- on his business plan after writing a the plan along with a CSU, Sacramento undergraduate student Jeff Hand.

Tommy coined the slogans "Classy Gospel Nightlife, Classy Gospel Fun Times and Classy Gospel Good Times."

After interning at Bill Graham Presents he became quite busy producing, marketing, promoting, and presenting Gospel & Gumbo shows and events throughout Northern and Southern California.

The first major Gospel & Gumbo® sold out in Vallejo, California in association with local promoter James Battle of Disciple Entertainment. After several more shows in the San Francisco Bay Area promoter Mark Hall of Markytown Productions in Sacramento joined the duo to present a signature show that yields "Classy Gospel Good Times."
